Catchin’ up with Kathleen

Welcome to the end of the year. What an incredible year 2007 has been! On a personal level there has been so much that has occurred. Professionally it has been an amazing year.

Over the last year our niece Taryn married TC, a wonderful young man who has been welcomed with open arms into our family. We also watched our 15-year-old nephew, Shane McGoey aka Go-Go McGoey, continue to place first in race after race in his sport of choice.  www.shanemcgoey.com

Street Smarts Marketing is one of his proud sponsors. Since his sport is one that can cost quite a bit to be involved with, Shane is always on the lookout for great sponsors. If you would like to find out more about this, simply email me at kathleen@kathleengage.com and I will fill you in on the details.

Not able to escape the loss of our four-legged companions, we lost our ferret and cat to old age this year. However, we did adopt a rescue kitten and welcomed Mariah, a beautiful quarter horse, into our menagerie of animals. We also enjoyed time with family, played lots and lots of cards, traveled a bit and celebrated my father’s 80th birthday.

Although there have been many happy occasions we have also dealt with the passing of family members. We have also had some serious illness in the family. Fortunately, my health is stellar and I have every intention of enjoying a healthy 2008.

With every experience where I feel loss and sorrow I am always reminded how precious each day is and one not to be wasted on the petty things. Each day is a day I can choose what I want to focus on. Each day is a day I can express gratitude or not. The choice is mine and mine alone as it is with each of us.

Moving into the New Year, a very special happening will be my parent’s 59th wedding anniversary on January 1st.

On a professional level I have had the honor and privilege of working with some wonderful people. I have assisted hundreds of speakers, trainers, authors and consultants launch their online presence and grow their position in their markets.

What a thrill this is for me. When I see someone fulfill his or her dreams it brings me great satisfaction. On the flip side I have seen many people give up on their dreams. Often it is because they have not remained focused on what they most desire or they come to the realization that there is no such thing as becoming an overnight success.

As much as most sensible people intuitively know they are not going to become overnight successes, there will always be those people who think there is an easy way to success. Not that success need be hard, but there is work involved. Work that can be fun, work that can be truly joyful, but work all the same.

One person I have watched live his dream is Dr. Joe Capista. Dr. Joe, as he is affectionately referred to, had the dream of writing a book. We first began talking about this a couple of years ago. I met Dr. Joe during a training session I facilitated for a client in Draper, Utah. After the training session, which consisted of eight dentists, we all gathered at my client’s home for dinner.

After dinner, Dr. Joe and I talked for hours about what it takes to build a successful business. It was during this conversation, Dr. Joe told me about his family, his religious and spiritual beliefs and his philosophy on business. From our first conversation I knew Joe was the kind of person others would benefit in learning from.

What stuck with me most about our initial conversation was Dr. Joe’s passion. No matter what he talked about he did it with such enthusiasm and zest.

It was during this conversation that Joe shared his dream of writing a book.

Not one to waiver from his vision (which may explain why he is in the top 3% of revenue generators in his industry in the United States) Dr. Joe began writing his book at the beginning of 2007 while continuing to run a very successful dental practice in Philadelphia.

Not only was he writing the book and running his practice, he could also be found speaking to various groups sharing insights on how to build a successful business while maintaining balance in one’s personal life.

In less than three weeks, Dr. Joe’s dream becomes a reality. What Can a Dentist Teach You about Business, Life and Success? Discover Secrets to Achieving Total Success! will be available at www.joecapista.com and Amazon.com. The book has been endorsed by the likes of bestselling authors T. Harv Eker, Pat Croce, Peggy McColl and Joe Nunziata.

This book is not your typical business book. In it he talks about creating balance in all areas of one’s life. It is a book that can be used as a model for running a successful business regardless of the industry. There are principles Dr. Joe shares that are universal principles.

For a taste of what the book is about visit Dr. Joe’s website www.joecapista.com to access his free eBook, Build a Multi Million Dollar Business. This resource will give you great information on the business side of Dr. Joe’s philosophy and systems.

Another wonderful experience in 2007 was the launching of my Platinum Mentoring Program. When I decided to launch this six-month intensive program I made a conscious choice to limit it to ten people.

The process for someone to join in on the program was such that only the most serious and committed candidates were selected. I’m so grateful I decided to work with this select group of people.

In coming months you will be hearing more about these amazing people and see some of the fantastic products and services they are taking to market.

As we move into the Holiday Season, I want to wish you and yours a wonderful year-end and the most blessed New Year. May all your dreams come true, may you always remember to be thankful for the day you have and may you touch the lives of many in a loving and joyful way.

Blessings,
Kathleen Gage

Is Blogging Necessary or Is It the Next Fad?
By Kathleen Gage

Although some people view blogging as a novelty or a “someday I’ll get around to it” item on their to do list, most companies will find great benefit by adding blogs and blogging to their overall marketing strategy. When done correctly, blogging can have an incredible impact on your market position.

In essence blogs are no different from other marketing channels. Blogs are designed to deliver results, position you and your company and establish credibility. Some of the primary reasons to have a blog and to blog are to build expert status, reach a global market, increase customer and media relations, keep your market informed on what is happening with your company and industry, establish market perception and rank high on the Search Engines.

Determine the Purpose
Are you blogging because this is the latest and greatest fun idea someone on your team thought of or is this a viable part of your overall branding and marketing strategy? If a blog is simply another whimsical idea, you are likely blogging for the wrong reason. If, on the other hand, this is a part of your overall marketing strategy make sure you are strategic in your process.

Blog Consistently
To be effective you need to blog on a fairly regular basis. Your postings can be short, but need to be relative to your purpose. Many bloggers post information from other sites as a way to keep their readers informed on a particular topic. When you post information from another resource you absolutely must reference where you got the information from.

You can blog about new product releases, plans your company has, articles of interest and even what your competition is up to. The more valuable the information the more you will build a dedicated readership.

Driving Visitors
There are a number of effective ways to get people to view your blog. One is to use key words relative to your market and industry. Whenever you post something you want to include those key words.

Next you can announce your blog in your company newsletter, through media releases, to your current opt-in subscribers and in any advertising you do. You should submit your blog URL to Blog Directories.

You can add your blog address to your outgoing email messages by way of your sig (signature) file that you use at the end of your email messages.

Another option is to write articles specific to your market and industry. Add a resource box at the end of your article with a link back to your blog. If your article is perceived to have high value there is a very good chance readers will visit your blog.

Most importantly is to make the blog postings valuable to the readers. If the information doesn’t hold their interest they will have no reason to return.

The more valuable your readers find your information the more likely it will be that they turn into loyal readers.

Subscribers to Your Blog
By offering readers the chance to subscribe to your blog it will be more likely they will continue to read your information. Make it easy for people to sign up for your blog. You can add what are known as blog buttons also known as chiclets. You can also add a simple sign up form by visiting FeedBlitz.com and FeedBurner.com. This allows people to subscribe to the feed and receive updates as you add new content to your blog.

Keywords
Keywords are a way to improve your search engine ranking. Choosing the right words for your products, services, industry or market is extremely important. Keywords are what lead search engines to your blog. The more targeted your list the more effective your postings.

Analyze your business and your market. Think of any words that your readers might be search on to find you that relate to your company, industry, product or service.

The way to narrow your target words down is to use a keyword selector tool. A reliable selector tool will help you to narrow the search by indicating how often people search on specific word combinations.

In Conclusion
Blogging will create great opportunities when done correctly, consistently and conscientiously.

The gold is in your database. How often have you heard this? Anyone who has been around the Internet for any length of time has likely heard that it is important to build a responsive database in order to optimize his or her marketing efforts.

Unfortunately, far too many businesses fail to put ongoing effort or resources into building a solid database. Rather, they spend time on tasks that fail to get them the type of results they need to grow their business.

The fact is with a responsive database you can actually lower the cost of doing business while increasing the lifetime value of your customers. One of the number one ways to build a responsive list is to give visitors to your website or blog a way to leave you their name and email address. If you don’t you are missing a golden opportunity.

Granted, visitors are not as likely to leave their name and contact information as they were in the past. Yet, if they view you as a viable resource they are more inclined to do so.

So how do you position yourself to be a viable resource? It’s simple. Know what your customers’ problems are and offer solid solutions to their problems. When you do this they likely will view you as a viable resource.

Marketability and Possibility

In today’s ever changing world one of the most essential skills to obtain is that of marketability. Many people hold the belief that marketability is a corporate issue only. Businesses are concerned with marketing plans and strategies, always watching the bottom line for marketing success.

As much as organizations must be able to market their products, services and philosophies, so must an individual. This skill alone creates unlimited possibility.

Many object to the thought of marketing themselves feeling only the brazen and aggressive dare to be so bold. Regardless of whether you own a business, run a nonprofit association or work for a company, the landscape has changed. Security is an illusion.

Marketability simply put is the law of attraction. It is a quality of energy others want to participate in. Marketability is being able to communicate the ability to exude possibility.

"Positive thoughts have the power to change your life when they're fueled by positive emotions."

The key word to focus on in the above statement is WHEN.  You can plant a seed (a thought), but if you don't back it up with positive emotion, it will not manifest into form.

New York Times Best Selling author Peggy McColl has created a masterpiece for you with her newest best seller, YOUR DESTINY SWITCH
(with an appropriate subtitle:  Master Your Key Emotions, and Attract the Life of Your Dreams).
