We’re
here! 2008 is well under way. I want to wish all my readers a wonderful
2008. If you’re like me you are somewhat in amazement that the New Year
is here.
The
year started off with a celebration of my parent’s 59th
wedding anniversary. Just a small family gathering and yet, a fun one.
What a thrill it is to be able to enjoy time with my mother and father
as they reminisce their early years of marriage dating back to 1949.
The
year also started off with a new addition to my household. We adopted
another cat. Storm is about ten years old, bigger around than she is
tall and has some abandonment issues. She came to the right home to
resolve her issues because my home is one in which we love to have four
legged critters around.
As I
was dusting my living room furniture yesterday, it occurred to me that I
would not have as much dusting or vacuuming to do if I didn’t have a
bunch of pets. It also occurred to me I wouldn’t have the love and
affection I get from my critters. Then it occurred to me that there is a
price to pay for everything we do.
Actually, the opening statement of a new book, What Can A Dentist
Teach You about Business, Life & Success? is “You can have
anything in life you want if you want it badly enough and are willing to
pay the price.”

The
price doesn’t necessarily have to be monetary; it can be time, energy
and effort.
Think
about it. Whenever you have wanted anything there is always a price to
pay. Whether it be money, health, a good relationship, a car, peace of
mind, there is a trade-off of something. Take peace of mind. There is a
price to pay for that. It may mean you spend quiet time in reflection
and meditation rather than watching television. Or perhaps it means
taking time to walk in nature; time that you could spend doing something
else. Regardless, there is a price to pay. Not that paying a price is
bad. It can actually be very good.
What I
find most interesting is how often people will say they want something,
yet they are not willing to put effort into getting what they want.
Recently I was talking with a friend who happens to be a fine artist.
She said that often people will say they would love to paint like she
does because she makes it look so easy. When she tells them the amount
of time she puts into what she does, the cost of supplies and that at
times she just doesn’t feel like painting, but has to because she has
been commissioned to do so, they quickly change their mind.
Such is
the case with people who say they want to write books. Now that Dr.
Capista (author of What Can a Dentist Teach You about Business, Life &
Success?) has his book on the market he is having an experience most
authors have. Daily, he has people say to him, “I’ve always wanted to
write a book.” As an author, I’ve heard this for years.
According to one study I read, 85% of the U.S. adult population has at
one time or another said they wanted to write a book. Yet, only a small
percentage actually do. Why? Because it takes work. Simple as that.
This is
traditionally the time of year that most people will set goals and
resolutions. Many are so darned committed to achieving their outcome, so
they think. The fact is, most people will give up on their goals within
days of setting them. What are the resolutions you have set? What are
you willing to do to achieve them? I ask this question not only to you,
my reader, but also to myself. There are things I want to accomplish and
the question I must ask myself is, “What am I willing to do to achieve
this?”
Recently, I had a similar discussion with my friends and colleagues,
Patsi Krakoff and Denise Wakeman aka The Blog Squad. As we have been
preparing the learning material for our upcoming four-week Law of
Action Mentoring Course, we have been very clear on the fact
that although many people claim to want success by way of the Internet,
most people are not willing to do what it takes to make that happen.
In our
four-week course we are going to shatter the myth some people have about
making money on and with the Internet. Unfortunately, there are lots of
unscrupulous people selling programs and information products that claim
you can make tens of thousands of dollars with little or no work. By the
same token, there are lots of reputable people selling programs.
The
truth is you can make tens of thousands of dollars, but there is work
involved. There are also systems you must put in place. To think you can
get rich quick or get rich without any effort is sad.
Those
people who have registered for our four-week course are going to be
learning some of the most important information on how to really make
money using the Internet. We have close to 90 people registered which
means there are only a few seats left.
To
learn more and register go to
www.actandattract.com. Only register if you are willing to learn
from three women that have “been there, done that” and now make our
living from the Internet.
Until
next month, many blessings to your and yours.

Will Your
Resolutions Soon be a Forgotten Promise?
By Kathleen Gage
This time of year many people write down goals of what
they want to accomplish in the coming year. The sad truth is it is often
a very futile exercise in setting and breaking goals. Few people stick
to the goals or resolutions they were so committed to at the beginning
of the year. Occasionally, you find someone who is serious about what
they are doing and does stick with their goals.
Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to work
with a gentleman who has been setting (and achieving) goals for years.
He actually began a formal process of setting goals at the beginning of
each year over 30 years ago. As a result, he enjoys a life few will
experience and many only dream of.
One goal he had at the beginning of 2007 was to write a
book. His purpose in writing the book was to document the very
processes, practices and strategies that have allowed him to be in the
top 3% of revenue generators in his industry while maintaining a life of
balance and contribution. .
In his book, “What Can a Dentist Teach You About
Business, Life and Success? Discover Secrets To Achieving Total Succes!”
Dr. Joe Capista writes, “Many people strive for their dream of success,
but often miss the one element they absolutely must have in order to
achieve their outcome - balance. I speak from the experience of having
achieved a very high level of outward success by the time I was in my
late twenties, yet my life was far from what could be considered one of
Total Success.
Having grown up in an average blue-collar neighborhood my
early definition of success was all about how much I could achieve
financially. Because of this early measure of success by the time I was
in my late twenties, I really felt as if I had arrived. I was making
great money, driving a fancy car and living in a big house. Everything I
based success on, I had. The harsh reality was, my life was in turmoil.
Although I had a level of success, I didn't have TOTAL
SUCCESS.
How many people base success on the outward measures, but
if you were to look deeper it would be evident there is much that is
missing? What I now know in my mid-fifties is that true success consists
of more than what we can achieve financially or materially.
Succeeding only on the material level can often leave
other areas of a person’s life completely out of balance. Even though
outwardly they appear to “have it all” their life is in turmoil and
their lifestyle is killing them. They lack inner-peace and balance.
The fact is, every aspect of life is connected. In order
to have Total Success, it is necessary to have balance in all areas of
life.
So often we say to ourselves, “I’m only going to work
this hard for a little while. When I achieve a higher level of success
then I will slow down.” The reality is, if we are merely driven by
outward measures of success, we may never slow down until life slows us
down through illness, broken marriages, lost friendships, or any number
of ways we are forced to slow down. Often we are forced to slow down
long enough to look at our life and admit what we have achieved is only
the hope of success and not what success is meant to be.
To achieve a life of success you must have balance
physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially and in your
relationships.
The reality is the more balanced your life becomes, the
more success you can create. The more balance you have the more you will
realize what you are capable of and how connected everything is.
All aspects of life are connected at a very deep level.
Once you come to realize this you can no longer address one area without
addressing another. Once you know this, you cannot longer go back to an
old way of thinking, acting and believing. Everything will shift.”
A quick look around will show us how correct Dr. Joe
Capista is with what he writes. How many people live a life in which
they enjoy inner peace and tranquility? Sadly, less than we may imagine.
As you set your goals for the coming year, think about what you need to
do to achieve a life that reflects the deepest meaning of success; one
in which you feel good about your life personally and professionally and
you have a deep sense of peace and tranquility.

The Power of Respect
Possibility
is achieved in our ability to get along with others. We live in a diverse
world made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds.
This kind of variety brings both challenges and blessings.
The
challenges lie in the space of the unknown and unfamiliar. The blessings come
from the same space.
As we look
for possibility in this complex world, we should focus on the simple concept
of support and respect for one another. Imagine if we could create an
environment where differences are respected, opinions are valued, and all
people are welcome.
Great
achievements have been accomplished when respect is in the forefront of any
relationship. As simplistic as it seems, treating people with respect simply
makes the world a nicer place.
Because we
live in a society that is highly competitive it is often easy to be
disrespectful in order to place ourselves above others.
To respect
another reminds our conscious awareness that we have more similarities than
differences between us. The differences of nations, races, beliefs,
lifestyles and gender viewpoints create a mosaic of possibility we can’t
experience in a homogenous world.
Make a
conscious effort to create your day void of judgment and filled with respect.

have the power to change your life when they're fueled by
positive emotions."
The
key word to focus on in the above statement is WHEN.
